Currie Barracks Stormwater

Progressive's landscape architectural practice, in concert with AMEC, developed detailed construction drawings for a stormwater system ensuring treatment of all storm runoff through rain gardens and bioswales for dense urban community. The design incorporates boulevards and parks and retains a high percentage of stormwater onsite for reuse and infiltration and also ensures the release of filtered water into off-site storm systems. The integrated stormwater and open space network incorporates bioswales, rain gardens, innovative catch basin designs and underground storage systems.

Most significantly, Currie Barracks has attained Stage 2 Gold Certification in Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design for Neighbourhood Design (LEED ND®) — the first of its kind in Canada. Currie Barracks also contains the most significant concentration of provincially designated historic buildings and landscapes in an urban centre in Alberta.
