Shepard Industrial Park

Progressive Engineering, part of the Trow Group of Companies, is the Lead Engineering Consultant; undertaking the civil engineering and landscape architectural work involved with the design of a 392ha industrial park for the City of Calgary, Office of Land Servicing & Housing. This project is expected to be completed over the next 20 years.

The site will incorporate surface and stormwater treatment with an extensive bioswale and wetland system, that will treat all stormwater for the site. This stormwater management system will connect to the Shepard Slough Complex with an ultimate discharge through the Shepard Ditch to the Bow River. Specific conceptual design works includes stormpond and wetland, municipal reserve, and bioswale development.

Non-traditional road cross-sections are being developed throughout the project to accommodate the servicing requirements. A power generation facility is expected to be built within the industrial park and a District Energy system will be installed throughout the development in order to use the surplus heated water from the power generation facility for the provision of heat to buildings to be built on other parcels of land within the park.

A "greenway" will also be developed through the area that will serve as part of a larger regional pathway/open space system to provide recreational opportunities to occupants of the industrial park and to residents in southeast Calgary.
